Master Tickets

For events that span multiple dates but are still subject to change, Master Tickets are an advanced feature that allows for large amounts of tickets to be created, managed and edited simultaneously. This feature is ideal for "default" ticket types, which are expected to be the same across all event dates.

Master Tickets are an advanced feature of IWannaTicket that allows for the creation, editing and managing of large batches of identical tickets over multiple event dates by using a Master Ticket as a template.

The tickets created in this way are cannot be edited manually but will reflect any changes made to the Master Ticket they were created from, enabling large groups of tickets to be managed at once.

NOTE: Master Tickets are an advanced feature and as such are not enabled by default. If you would like to start using Master Tickets, contact your Account Manager or get in touch via support@iwannaticket.com.au.

Once enabled on your account by an IWannaTicket administrator, Master Tickets can be configured by navigating to your event page, and clicking the "Master Tickets" link on the left navigation bar.

From here, a new Master Ticket can be created by clicking the "Add Master Ticket" button in the left action field. The process for creating Master Tickets is very similar to any other ticket creation, covered further in the article below.

Event Date Groups

By default Master Tickets are applied to all dates within an event, enabling quick set up of default ticket types. In many cases however, tickets should only available on certain event dates - this can be managed via the Event Date Groups field during Master Ticket creation or editing.

By applying the code "FRIDAY" in the example below, the Friday Night Games tickets will only be created and available for purchase on dates that have been similarly assigned.

Event dates can be assigned to groups via the "Edit Date" button on the Event Summary page or alternatively assigned during Event Date creation. In addition to being used to limit Master Ticket allocations, reports can be generated for multiple Event Dates grouped in this way.

Applying Changes to Master Tickets

Due to the amount of tickets that may be linked to Master Tickets, any edits or changes to Master Tickets are not immediate and must be reviewed and applied manually before they can be applied to the rest of the tickets.

After applying edits and clicking the "Save" button, IWannaTicket automatically assesses how these changes will affect the current ticket types linked to the Master Ticket and provides a brief run down of any changes that will be applied. These can include:

  • Ticket types will be updated - the changes will be made as intended.
  • Ticket types will be created - the changes require new tickets to be created.
  • Ticket types would be created, but they can't as there is already a ticket with the same name.
  • Ticket types would be deleted - there are existing tickets which shouldn't exist under the current changes, which will be deleted.
  • Ticket types would be disconnected from the Master Ticket - there are existing PURCHASED tickets which shouldn't exist under the current changes. These tickets will not be deleted.

The "Check Changes" button recalculates these changes, which is mainly used for when multiple people are modifying tickets at once.

After reviewing the changes, they can be saved and applied to the event by clicking "Apply Changes".

Linking and Unlinking Tickets

In some rare cases, individual tickets may need to be separated from the Master Ticket. This can be done by clicking the "Unlink" button on the ticket type, located next to "Edit" and "Delete".

As indicated by popup when attempting this, unlinking tickets created by a Master Ticket will result in the tickets being "in conflict", as the Master Ticket wants to create tickets that are already there. This is not necessarily a problem, but something to be aware of, as these unlinked tickets will no longer update with the Master Ticket.

Existing Ticket Types can be linked to a Master Ticket by ensuring the names of the tickets are identical (putting them "in conflict") and then clicking the "Link" button, located next to "Edit" and "Delete".
